چکیده

A procedure to identify dihydroflavonol (glucosides), cinnamic acids and anthocyanins in flowers of Petunia hybrida is presented. Nearly all known intermediates and anthocyanins ocurring in Petunia are separated on one column using different elution systems. Hydrolysis of extracts before HPLC and thin layer chromatography is in some cases necessary to make positive identification of flavonoids. Anthocyanins in flowers o f Petunia hybrida can occur, depending on genotype, as acylated anthocyanins. Two types of acylated anthocyanins have been identified differing in polarity and thus in retention times on HPLC and TLC. The difference in acylation is genetically deter mined and gives rise to minor colour differences.

AN9, a petunia glutathione S-transferase required for anthocyanin sequestration, is a flavonoid-binding protein.

AN9 is a glutathione S-transferase from petunia (Petunia hybrida) required for efficient anthocyanin export from the site of synthesis in the cytoplasm into permanent storage in the vacuole. For many xenobiotics it is well established that a covalent glutathione (GSH) tag mediates recognition of molecules destined for vacuolar sequestration by a tonoplast-localized ATP-binding cassette pump. He...

Activation of anthocyanin biosynthesis in Gerbera hybrida (Asteraceae) suggests conserved protein-protein and protein-promoter interactions between the anciently diverged monocots and eudicots.

We have identified an R2R3-type MYB factor, GMYB10, from Gerbera hybrida (Asteraceae) that shares high sequence homology to and is phylogenetically grouped together with the previously characterized regulators of anthocyanin pigmentation in petunia (Petunia hybrida) and Arabidopsis. GMYB10 is able to induce anthocyanin pigmentation in transgenic tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum), especially in vegeta...

Extraction, Identification and Thermal Stability of Anthocyanins from Eggplant Peel as a Natural Colorant

In the present study, various mixtures of aqueous ethanol and acetone solutions were utilized to extract anthocyanins from eggplant peel by a discontinuous process to obtain a natural red-purple colorant. First, the most appropriate combination for extraction solvent was selected as ethanol 70 wt in water acidified with acetic acid 3 wt, which was determined by analysis of extraction yields and...

Light-induced vegetative anthocyanin pigmentation in Petunia

The Lc petunia system, which displays enhanced, light-induced vegetative pigmentation, was used to investigate how high light affects anthocyanin biosynthesis, and to assess the effects of anthocyanin pigmentation upon photosynthesis. Lc petunia plants displayed intense purple anthocyanin pigmentation throughout the leaves and stems when grown under high-light conditions, yet remain acyanic whe...
